An inquiry into the art of coaching for civic leadership.
We live in a society with a leadership void. We’re undergoing deep pain, dreams deferred, lies, misunderstanding, miseducation and disinformation about who we are, how we got here, and how to move forward.
While it is assumed that those who are elected to represent “we the people” are the ones who should lead us, in many ways, we’ve been led astray, and the state of our Democracy is at risk.
Meanwhile, some special coaches have stepped up into the void, providing leadership for us all to follow, in public, and in the locker room.
Coaches are increasingly commenting on matters of politics and social justice. Sports fans are calling for a Popovich-Kerr 2020 Presidential ticket, and there are memes and t-shirts to show for it!
Kidding aside, we can, and we must, stand for something more than strategizing how to put a ball in a hoop, or catch one in the end zone.
Through this project, I’ll interview coaches exploring what it means to coach as civic leaders:
With their team
In their community
In the public conversation we are having as a nation divided
I can’t wait.
